What’s really interesting is that the balance of electrolytes in the body’s cells affects hydration. Because of the way osmosis works, fluids that are isotonic (have an ideal balance of electrolytes for the body) will be able to be absorbed optimally by cells, leading to ideal hydration.
Note that the original recipe suggests (as an optional ingredient) to add sugar. There is no need for it, and we think the drink will be better (and more natural of course) without it. Also, scientists have stated that for the vast majority of people, drinks with added sugar counteract the benefits of exercise.
You will need…
-1/4 cup of freshly squeezed lime juice
-1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
-1 ½ to 2 cups fresh water, depending on how strong you want the flavor
-1/8 teaspoon of sea salt
-2 tablespoons natural sugar or honey, to taste
Toss everything into a food blender and blend until the honey is dissolved, or just use some elbow grease and blend it by hand. Pour yourself a tall glass, drop in a few ice cubes, and enjoy.
